About Us

Why should you choose Hart Pets?

Hart vets are dedicated to providing quality health care with compassion. We like our patients to see the same vet whenever possible. We care for your pets the same way we would want our own pets to be cared for.

We have on-site parking available for clients at both our Bicester Veterinary Hospital and our Waddesdon Vet Surgery, with disabled access to our waiting rooms and consulting areas. Our surgeries are air-conditioned and we have separate dog and cat areas so that our patient environment remains calm.

Unlike most veterinary practices, we have a nurse awake caring for our patients at our Bicester Veterinary Hospital every night, as well as having a vet on call. Our dedicated night nurses ensure that our patients receive the same high standard of care at night as they do during the day, every day of the year. We are the only veterinary practice in the area that employs dedicated night nurses to work throughout the night caring for our patients.

Most of our clients live locally in the Bicester – Aylesbury area, but many of our clients come from nearby towns and villages including Oxford, Kidlington, Thame, Brackley, Banbury, Buckingham, Winslow and Milton Keynes.

Hart Vets is one of only approximately 150 veterinary practices in the country that have achieved the standard necessary to be accredited as a small animal veterinary hospital.

RCVS Accredited Veterinary Hospital

Hart Vets is proud to be an accredited small animal veterinary hospital under the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeon’s Practice Standards Scheme. The scheme was set up by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) to promote and maintain the highest standards of veterinary care. Hart Vets Bicester was awarded the highest level under the scheme in August 2009 – small animal hospital. Hart Vets Waddesdon was accredited in its own right as a Small Animal General Practice in 2013. Out of over 4000 vet practices in the UK only about 150 have achieved the hospital standard.

In order to achieve accreditation as a small animal hospital we had to undergo rigorous inspection by the RCVS. We had to demonstrate that we:

  • Provide the highest standard of veterinary care
  • Meet rigorous standards of hygiene
  • Provide nursing care for our in-patients during the night
  • Comply with health and safety and legal requirements
  • Have a comprehensive range of soft-tissue and orthopaedic surgical equipment
  • Maintain and improve our clinical standards through an ongoing process of monitoring and review
  • Have a range of specialist diagnostic equipment including ultrasound, digital x-ray, digital endoscopy, ECG and an in-house laboratory

FAQ's

Does Hart Vets perform complex orthopaedic surgery and spinal surgery?

Yes , we are fortunate to have our own orthopaedic expert Ian Hart. This means that we can manage the vast majority of surgical cases in house. Indeed, we also accept cases referred to us from neighbouring veterinary practices.

I’ve heard that Hart vets now perform acupuncture to help dogs and cats with arthritis, is this correct?

Yes. Clare Hart and Gemma Prophet are qualified to perform acupuncture at Hart vets and use this procedure regularly. They have had significant success particularly in dogs and cats with arthritis.

What happens to my pet when it comes in to stay in the hospital?

Pets that are particularly poorly are admitted so that we can give them round the clock care. The vet that is looking after your pet will be performing tests to find out what is wrong with your pet and a specific in-patient nurse will be responsible for your pets every needs; making sure they are comfortable, free of pain and for dogs if they are up to it going out for a little walk. At Hart Vets the care your pet receives at night is exactly the same as during the day. You can sleep well while we give your pet the very best of care.

Does the nurse caring for my pet go to sleep at night?

No. We employ dedicated night nurses to care for our patients overnight.

I have difficulty carrying my cats basket into the practice, can you help?

Of course! At Hart Vets we are only too happy to help in any way we can. Tell our receptionist you have arrived and one of our staff will be happy to assist you.
